North Shore- Day Two- 2nd Half

Nothing like blogging about a trip you took five week ago...I'm hoping I'm back now, blogging on a consistent basis.  I feel like I'm ready again and have time again and it will be a good and healthy distraction.

I'm going to continue blogging right where I left off and act like it's September again even though we're heading into November.  Bear with me until I get caught up.

We arrived at our cabins in the late afternoon.  These were private cabins, not a part of a resort, so it was nice to be isolated away from everyone, right on Lake Superior.  Kim and Greg had their own cabin and M and I shared a cabin with Ray and Dolly.  We respected our elders and let them have the queen bed.  M and I had the twin beds.  Push out the night stand and the beds didn't stay twin for long.

We started a fire on the beach early on and enjoyed the lake.  The lake and sky were so phenomenal.  The lake was so calm and the sky was so pink and purple.

After it got dark, Kim surprised us with some Chinese sky lanterns so we lit them and let them go into the sky.  We took the party inside after realizing it was 37 degrees out (even though it didn't feel like it) and hung out for another couple of hours before calling it a night.

North Shore- Day Two- 1st half

Because I have so many pictures, I'm going to keep breaking down this three day trip into smaller parts.

We woke up at Bob's on Friday, September 14th, packed up and started to head north, eventually making our way to Shroeder where we would be staying for the next two nights.

Goodbye Bob's:

We stopped at Two Harbors to eat breakfast at Judy's and then for a little bit to try and watch a ship depart but it was behind schedule so we took a few pictures before heading to Split Rock.

There are 8 deer in this picture.  I can't see them all but I counted them when I took the picture.

We went to Split Rock Lighthouse and M's sister and BIL and brother and girlfriend met us there.  They didn't go on the tour but continued to Beaver Bay to a bar to wait for us.  We've been to Split Rock before but either due to weather or not even knowing it existed, we never ventured down the bluffs to see Split Rock from the perspective we've always wanted to see.  It was a completely perfect day to be there.  Going up the 178 steps to get back up wasn't that bad either (until the next day when my quads were sore).  It was just so gorgeous to sit there in the sun and warmth in my honey's arms and look around us and see everything you would see on a postcard.

We met the rest of the group at the Green Door bar.  Some of them had a White Russian and in the Kahlua bottle there were tons of fruit flies.  Of course they didn't figure this out until taking a drink first.  Yuck!  We headed to the cabins where we stayed the rest of the weekend. Until then...

North Shore Day One

**Boy, am I behind on blogging.  I started this post on 9/22 and I'm just finishing it now.**

The north shore trip that we had scheduled since last Spring couldn't have come at a better time.  I needed a break from reality and this was it for me.  How I wish I was still there.  Even though we weren't up there that long, I felt like we did a lot and the easiest way to blog about it is to break it up in sections so today I'll talk about day one.

We left our house on Thursday, September 13th at about 8 am and headed to Duluth.  We went to Rocky Mountain Chocolate Factory, hung out and watched a ship depart from Canal Park and walked around the area until the noon hour where we headed up to Two Harbors to stay in our cabin for one night.

*Lots of pictures ahead!*

We drove around Stoney Point.

We arrived at Bob's Cabins at little after 1 pm.  We checked in, got our keys, unpacked the car and walked out to the shore.  There was a ship passing right by us...the same boat we saw leave Canal Park.

We had never stayed at Bob's Cabins before but I knew they were old and have always been old.  They are rustic and don't have a TV and was advertised without a microwave even though there was one in the cabin. Our thoughts?  We absolutely loved this place.  It was perfect for people who want to relax and be quiet.  If you are the party crowd, this place is not for you.  We will definitely be coming back.

Some of the beauty from our cabin/shoreline:

I haven't been to Tom's Logging Camp since I was a kid.  We drive by every year and I always want to stop and for a variety of reasons, we never do.  I was adamant about going there this time.  Nothing has really changed except the store seems so tiny.  When I was a kid, this store was huge.  I bought some sort of cedar jewelry box each year and they still have the same ones there that I remember.  We also went on the small tour around the grounds to see the animals and the museum of old machinery and different logging camp scenes and stories.

We picked up food at Gil's and brought it back to the cabin.  We relaxed listening to music and talking before heading out for the night and going to Two Harbors to watch the Packers/Bears game at the bar.  Afterwards, we had a late night fire on the beach and watched that same ship from Canal Park earlier in the day depart Two Harbors at midnight miles up the shore.
