Ten Years - Meow!
It was 10 years ago this past Thanksgiving, November 28th, that I got my first fuzzy little baby. I went with my ex-something to the Animal Humane Society in Coon Rapids in 2003 to look at cats. I can't remember I really had intentions of getting one before we got there or if we just went to look. Either way, I saw many cats but there was one cat that caught my eye. No, it wasn't because he was the most playful or the prettiest, it was because he was quarantined. This cat was in a big room, all to himself because he had an eye infection that was contagious to the other cats. He looked nice and sad at the same time with his droopy, goopy eye. He had been there since the day before Halloween and that saddened me even more that he had been there a month.
I walked into the empty room and walked right up to the orange tabby that was sitting high above the ground on his perch. He let me pet him and he was gentle and easy-going. His name was Freddie and all I knew about his age was he was born in 2000, making him around three years old. I was sad that everyone in the last 30 days passed him up. I decided I was going to get him.
My ex-something bought Freddie for me as an early Christmas present. I took him home that day in a cardboard box thinking I just bought an adult cat that has a bunk eye, ear mites and an extra long tail .
I got home and Freddie was laid back, exploring my Minneapolis apartment. He didn't mind it if you pet him but he wasn't going to sit on your lap. He would follow me into every room I went though and he still does it today.
I didn't want to keep the cat's name as Freddie but the woman at the Humane Society said that it might be difficult to change a cat's name after 3 years. I did it anyway. At first I named him Mangy and then Chewy and then back to Mangy. I finally settled on Fuzzer. Prior to getting this cat, anytime my sister and I would see a cat, we would say, "Oh, look at the baby fuzzer!" Fuzzer was just a generic name for a cat. He never had a problem adjusting to his new name. Every once in a while, M and I will call him Freddie just to see if he looks. Sometimes he does but most often he doesn't.
Fuzzer has been my baby since the beginning. It was just him and I before his little brother Powder joined us 4 months later. He'd sit with me in the bathroom while I'd get ready for work and "sing". He doesn't meow, he sings. It's this cute little "mock-mak-mak-mock-mak-mak-mack-meh-mah..." that sounds like he's singing. It was MANY years before I actually heard him meow and it's still rare when he does.
He's been a devil at times and my innocent little angel too. In his older years, he is most definitely a lap cat, almost always opting for my lap over M's. He's 13 now and I can't imagine living my life without him, even though that day will be coming sooner than later. I cherish him every single day. Love you, Fuzz!

First of the Year Part II
Yesterday I talked about the first day we were able to take out our bicycles for the year. Today I'm talking about taking out the motorcycle for the first time for the year. That happened the very next day, Saturday, April 27th. The weather was perfect!
First, Fuzzer got to go outside for a little bit on his chain. He's an indoor cat so when I do let him out for a little bit, he behaves pretty well and is calm, but curious. He mostly just likes to chew on the grass and hang out. Isn't he pretty?

After Fuzzer had his fun, M cleaned the bike and we hopped on for a ride. We didn't have anywhere in particular to go but buzzed around enjoying the sunshine. We ended up stopping at Manitou Station in White Bear Lake for a drink on their patio before cruising around a little more before going home.
The nice weather was short-lived and we'd have more snow after this date. This non-Spring has been the weirdest ever.

Walk for Animals
I'm doing the Animal Humane Society's Walk for Animals for my 10th time on Saturday, May 4th. The walk is held in Golden Valley and it is 5 miles. I did my very first walk by myself after adopting my cat Fuzzer less than 6 months prior. A month before the first walk, I also got Powder, my other cat. We've been a happy family ever since!
As I do each year, I'm collecting donations to go the AHS. Would you like to help?
If you are interested in donating, please check out my personal page, otherwise please contact me if you'd prefer to send a check to my address.
Donate to my page here: My Personal Donation Page
To send a check: My Email Address
If you don't have interest in donating or can't, please send this blog post to someone who might. As for now, please enjoy the pictures below of my fuzzy babies.
Thank you!

Cat Scratch Fever
I've never had a sick cat. Fortunately, Fuzzer doesn't mind the car and you don't even need a carrier for him. We put him on his leash and headed to the animal hospital that is just down the street from us on Saturday, November 10th. They didn't do much for him other than quick check him out and assume he has a virus. They said to give him L-Lysine which is an amino acid essential to humans. They had cat treats you could buy there that included it so I bought some. I said to the vet, "They're not like $20 are they?" She said no, but she wasn't sure of the cost. After getting rung up at the counter for the visit and the treats, I realized the cat treats weren't $20 but only $19. Great. They did work for Fuzzer though. The virus he had is very contagious so Powder also got sick a few days later. Powder wouldn't eat the treats so I had to buy the pill form at the store and the crush it up with a mortar and pestle and put it in his food. My cats are all healthy and back to normal now but wow, I really thought each of them was on their deathbed for awhile.

Week in Pictures
I thought I'd share with you some of my favorite pictures from this past week.
Last week I went out with a coworker one last time before his last day as he accepted a new job. Here's the beautiful lunch I had. If you get a chance, go to Good Earth and get the Planet Burger...it's so good!
I've discovered that I like Oktoberfest beers. I didn't realize that Oktoberfest is a type of beer, which only comes out at this time of year. M picked up 5 different types of Oktoberfest beers for me and so far, this one from Left Hand Brewing is the only one I've tried so far but I like it.
This photo is from the car wash on Monday. We are in M's car and the Vikings sticker looked neat against the multicolored soap.

I bought this cupcake from Whole Foods for my nephew Hunter for his birthday. Isn't it cute? They had both hot dogs and hamburger cupcakes to choose from. And only $2.99.

Finally, a picture of my baby Powder on Monday. He's found a new chair and cushion and he's just...cute and fuzzy.

Happy Birthday
I know that some of you must thing my posts are stupid and trivial at times and that's ok but most times, I'm writing for me.
Therefore, Happy Birthday to my cats, Fuzzer and Powder. It was their birthday on July 1st. Fuzzer is now 12 and Powder is 9.
I love these cats so much and they keep me going on some days. Recently I've wanted to just escape life a bit and I'm glad they're here for me to love and them to love me.
