Triple S:  Shopping, Sushi, School.

I met my sister at Kohl's on Saturday, October 26th in Woodbury.  We both had Kohl's Cash from purchases earlier in the week.  I had a free $50 to spend since I bought the Kitchenaid stand mixer.  My intention was to use my Kohl's Cash for Christmas presents for my nephew and BIL.  I ended up falling in love with a moto jacket but since it was on sale and I had a 30% off coupon, there was Kohl's Cash to be spent on them.  Is it sick that I'm 80% done with my Christmas shopping?  

After shopping, we went to Akita for sushi.  I eat sushi on two to three times a year so it's always a treat and something my sister and I have been craving.  We stuffed ourselves with rolls and sushi and sashimi and now we're probably good until around my birthday.

Later that evening, my mom went to her 40th high school reunion.  She went to her 5, 10 and 20 year class reunions as well.  I dropped her off at her friend's house and then my mom and two of her classmates went to the reunion at a Stillwater golf course.  She looks good for being out of school for 40 years, doesn't she?

Japanese Night

We already know I'm way behind on my blog posts so it will be no surprise to you that I'm still talking about June.  On Wednesday, June 26th, my mom, sister and I went to Osaka Sushi and Hibachi for our monthly dinner.  We went to the Maplewood location.  While both my sister and I hadn't been to this location, we both have been to these types of restaurants before where my mom hadn't.  I don't think she was that comfortable going into it but she ended up really liking the show and the interaction as well as the food.  We tried to get her to do a sake shot but she wouldn't.  Ha ha. :)

Afterwards, we went to the mall right across the street for a little 30% off Kohl's shopping trip.  A pair of sunglasses, a couple of bracelets and a pair of flip flops later, I was set.

Mother's Day

My mom, Jamie and I celebrated Mother's Day back on Sunday, April 14th on a rainy day.  With a mom in the floral business, it gets very busy with prom and Mother's Day so the weeks leading up to Mother's Day are hectic for her and she ends up working more than she normal does, therefore she's exhausted.

Anyway, we celebrated by going to Pinstripes in Edina for brunch.  We got there right at 10 am and we were the first people there but within 45 minutes, the place was packed.  The food was extremely delicious.  I think it was my favorite brunch ever.

After brunch, we had tickets for noon at Bachman's Spring Idea House.  If you don't know what the Idea House is, Bachman's has a house that they decorate in the Spring, Fall and Winter.  It's right next to the big Bachman's store on Lyndale Avenue in South Minneapolis.  You can tour the house to get ideas and you can buy everything that is available in the house at their store or one of a kind pieces can be purchased after the season of the tours end.  

The house was awesome.  I loved so many things about the way they decorated and they way they had creative uses for things.  The house isn't that big so it goes to show you what you can do with smaller spaces.  I apparently didn't take any photos of the dining room.  This was the first time they had a craft room and a home office in the house, otherwise they are usually bedrooms.  My favorite room was the master bedroom.  Instead of a traditional headboard, they took a curtain rod and hung an area rug around it and then put ceramic flowers on it.  I have a feeling we'll be back to the Idea House again.

After the house, we went to the Mall of America to go shopping. I bought one thing but I was eyeing up this pretty awesome cat shirt from Forever 21.  

The day was perfect.  We all really enjoyed ourselves.

On actual Mother's Day, I really didn't think my mom would want to stay home by herself, despite her being tired from working a lot.  I called her up and we decided to go to lunch.  Before lunch, we stopped at DealSmart and then we went to Culver's as she's been wanting to try that new burger from there.  I had no idea what she was talking about until I saw it on TV finally the night before.  They dropped off a free sundae for her for her special day.  We then went to Kirkland's and Bed, Bath and Beyond.  

After shopping, we went to the cemetery.  My aunt planted flowers at my Gramma's grave earlier in the day.

I hadn't been to my dad's grave since Christmas Day.  I guess it's pointless for me to go in the winter when it's snowy and you can't even see where he's at.  I was happy to see that the penny I dropped off for him on Christmas Day is still there, shiny as can be.  The cemetery was pretty busy that day with people remembering their moms but we still managed to see five deer.  Can you see them all in the photo?

I Had to Play Hookey

I colored my hair on Sunday evening, March 3rd.  I hadn't colored my hair for over a year.  I bought a kit from the store, a different kit than I've always used.  I bought an intense red.  I really like my hair in any shade of red and I think it compliments my skin tone.  After putting in the color, it got really orange, really fast and it started to scare me.  I ended up washing it out 6-7 minutes early because of this.  The color was very vibrant which I could deal with as red fades every time you wash it but what I couldn't deal with is that my scalp was stained orangey-red.  It looked ridiculous enough for me to decide I couldn't go to work the next day.  So I told my supervisor Sunday night I wouldn't be coming in.  I'm not sure how your work is with time off but we can take time off as long as we have the PTO to do so.  It doesn't matter the reason and you don't have to say why.  

I woke up Monday at the same time I normally would have for work and started my day.  Since I had a free day, I took care of some admin stuff for myself and then decided to ask my mom if she wanted to bum around with me.  She did and I picked her up and we went to different stores for errands I had to run.  

We ended up stopping at Big Bowl in Rosedale Mall for lunch.  It's yet another place she had never been and was reluctant about it.  We started with vegetable potstickers and we both did the stir fry bar.  I had the veggie panang red curry with noodles and she had the veggie teriyaki with fried rice.  We both didn't eat very much and had leftovers for dinner that night.  She really liked it and I loved mine.  I wish I would have done rice but I added brown rice to it when I ate it for dinner. I could Asian food every day! 

More Shopping

On Saturday, February 16th, my mom and I went out to breakfast in downtown St. Paul to Downtowner Woodfire Grill.  M and I used to go to breakfast here all the time but we haven't been for quite some time.  My mom, of course, hadn't been there so it was a new experience for her.  I'm trying to get her to experience as much as she can, even if it is just a restaurant.  

We both ordered the same breakfast and enjoyed the ambiance before heading to Macy's.

We went a handful of blocks over to the Macy's store that is closing.  They will be closing their doors March 16th and at the time we went, they were offering sales at 40-60% off for most items.  Since I had a bunch of gift cards to use, we didn't spend a dime out of our own pockets and even had gift card money left over.  I bought a top and pair of pants and my mom bought a few tops.  I was eyeing an orange scarf there but it was still a little too much than I wanted to pay so I didn't get it.  The same goes for a Michael Kors jacket.

Fast forward a week and my sister and nephew went to the same Macy's and the sale was 50-70% off most items.  The orange scarf was still there at 60% off.  The Michael Kors jacket was also still there, but in black instead of teal and an additional 10% off, making it now 60% off.  I picked up both and called it a day.  It didn't hurt my wallet too bad since I used my leftover Macy's gift card.

Afterwards, my sister, Keith and I went to Joseph's Grill for lunch. My nephew is growing up so fast.  He's going to be 10 in June and I wish he would just stop growing for a little bit so I can still enjoy his company as a little boy!
